How did we work out your energy use?

The average household in Australia uses around 5,000kWh of electricity per year. We used this to develop a rough indication of your community’s energy use and cost:

  1. Divide population by 2.5 to get number of households
  2. Multiply households by 5000 kWh per household*
  3. Divide population by 30 to get the number of businesses & community buildings**
  4. Multiply number of businesses & community buildings by 20,000kWh/business /year
  5. Multiply by 35 c/kWh to get $$ spent***

Remember only gives you an indication!

* This varies with the climate and access to other fuels like gas. You can calculate your own community statistics and your result will be more accurate.
** The business statistics are based on the Heyfield community. Business and community infrastructure doesn’t always match the size of your community.
*** Electricity costs vary around Australia. Many people pay 40c/kWh and a lucky few are as low as 25c/kWh.
