Identify your electricity network provider

This activity will help you identify the energy company, known as a distribution network service provider (DNSP), that operates your local electricity network. Many states in Australia have more than one DNSP. Each DNSP is a monopoly business and owns the electricity assets in a defined region.

Your DNSP is in charge of operating the poles and wires in your community, attending to faults and planning new investments. You will need to contact them if you want to connect new energy equipment such as a new electricity generator or a new battery.

Some projects may be able to get income if they defer network investments, so it is important to understand any planned network changes or spending in your area.

To identify your DNSP you look at your electricity bill. It will be from your electricity retailer and it is likely to tell you the distributor. This information will be near the contact number for power failures and faults.

You can also use this link: AER links to every DNSP, which lists all the DNSPs for each state and their website details.
